Common questions
Which books can I import?
In Books, choose Import Book to select a file from Files. Readcape supports EPUB, plain text (.txt) and MOBI files up to 30 MB. MOBI import extracts text on your device; images and complex layouts are omitted. Encrypted books are not supported. If import fails, check the file format and size, and try an unprotected EPUB or TXT copy.
How do I see Chinese definitions?
Open the gear in Profile to reach Settings, then turn on Chinese under Extra language. Tap CN / EN in a word card to switch definitions. Chinese definitions are available offline from ECDICT. This changes the word definition, while the English original and app interface stay in English. Chinese-to-English search is a separate offline dictionary download in Settings.
What do Known and Unknown mean?
Looking up a word marks it Unknown. Mark it Known when you recognize it. Finishing a passage adds its unmarked words to your known vocabulary. Personal vocabulary and word-list coverage reflect these reading records and your markings; they are not a proficiency test.
How do I back up or restore my library?
Open Settings from the gear in Profile. Under Export & restore, choose Export backup to save a backup file and keep it somewhere safe. Restore backup… replaces the current library: read the confirmation carefully and export your current library first if you want to keep it. If a backup cannot be opened, keep the original file and contact us before trying further changes.
What should I include in a problem report?
You can also choose Send feedback in Profile in the app. Tell us which screen you were using, the steps that led to the problem and what you expected to happen. Your device, system version and app version help us investigate. A screenshot is useful when it does not contain private information. For import problems, include the file type and size; there is no need to send the book itself.
