YOUR READING, YOUR DATA

Privacy policy

How Readcape handles information in the iPhone and iPad app and on this website.

Effective: 23 October 2026

Readcape is operated by Danzi (Shanghai) Network Technology Co.,Ltd. Contact: [email protected].

Your library on your device

Readcape stores your imported books and articles, vocabulary, reading progress and activity, saved contexts, bookmarks, passages and settings on your device. Ordinary offline reading and bundled dictionary lookups use that local data. You do not need to create a Readcape account to read.

If you choose a backup folder or export or share a file, your selected destination receives it. A folder in iCloud Drive or another file provider is subject to that provider’s privacy and retention practices. Downloading a book, article or optional dictionary also connects to the source hosting it and exposes normal network information to that source.

Optional online text repair

Online AI repair is off by default and requires your agreement before it sends text. When enabled, it checks possible broken words in imported text. Candidate words and nearby excerpts, together with file/text/repair-plan hashes and job information, are sent to our repair service hosted by Vercel and stored temporarily in Neon. The repair API sends these excerpts, rather than the complete book file, to AIHubMix using a DeepSeek model. Repaired results return to your device.

To protect the service against abuse, Apple App Attest provides an app-installation key and proof. Our service stores the associated public key and security counters and processes IP addresses and daily request counts. These security records are separate from your local vocabulary and reading history.

Repair retention and third-party AI

In our application database, repair excerpts and results become eligible for deletion 24 hours after all batches finish or fail. Unfinished jobs become eligible seven days after creation. A daily cleanup removes eligible records in bounded batches; active worker leases are protected. Normal cleanup is usually about 24–48 hours after completion, but a backlog, scheduler delay or outage can extend this. Older records receive a one-time seven-day grace period from the fixed rollout date.

Deleting a local book or cancelling a local import does not immediately erase an existing server job. Expiry does not delete your local reading copy. Daily security/admission counts older than seven days are cleaned up separately; App Attest public keys are retained to support installations that continue using the service.

This cleanup applies to our application database, not every provider’s logs, backups or model systems. AIHubMix and its downstream model provider have their own practices. Its published policy identifies DeepSeek prompt/completion retention as unspecified and says content may be used for training. We therefore do not promise that submitted excerpts are never retained or used for training by those providers. Read AIHubMix’s data privacy information before enabling online repair. Keep it off for text you do not want sent to these services.

Feedback and support

If you send in-app feedback, we receive your message, any optional reply email, app/build version and iOS or iPadOS version. It passes through our Vercel service and Resend to the operator’s support inbox. Unsent drafts are saved on your device. Emailing support sends the information you include through the email providers involved. Do not send passwords or private book content.

Support messages and email copies are retained as needed to handle the conversation and relevant service issues; they are not covered by the repair-job expiry schedule. Email providers may retain their own copies.

This website

The website uses Vercel Web Analytics for page-view information. Hosting and security providers, including Vercel and Cloudflare, process normal request and security information. The site saves your language preference in your browser’s local storage; you can clear it through your browser settings. See Vercel’s privacy policy and Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

If you join the launch-notification list, we store your email address, selected language and signup time in private Vercel Blob storage. Resend sends a signup notice containing those details to the operator’s inbox. We use the address for the launch notification and managing that request. The list currently has no automatic expiry; contact us to withdraw or request deletion. These website records are separate from app reading data and repair jobs.

Your choices and requests

You can keep online repair disabled, remove local content, manage backup files with your chosen provider and clear browser storage. Copies you exported or shared must also be managed at their destinations.

For questions, access or deletion requests, email [email protected]. Tell us whether your request concerns a signup, support message or repair job, and provide relevant dates or a job identifier if available. Please avoid sending book excerpts. We will work with you to locate records and verify the request, remove applicable information we control, and explain any records we cannot locate or copies controlled by another provider. We do not promise deletion from independent providers’ systems or a response time that we cannot guarantee.

Changes

We will update this page when these practices change and revise the effective date. Contact [email protected] with privacy questions.
